May 2025 - Enterprise System Development

Antara banyak banyak subjek, ini adalah antara subjek yang paling aku tidak suka di Uni. Boleh juga aku katakan subjek yang paling buat aku menyesal. Aku tak sangka masih ada lagi budak yang ambik subjek. Ini subjek Structure E. Kita dah mula pakai structure F. 

Kenapa aku tak suka subjek. Sebab subjek ini menggunakan ABAP sebagai tool untuk develop enterprise system. SAP dan ABAP masih relevant. Yang tak relevant platform yang kami gunakan. Tadi aku pergi ke lab untuk tengok ABAP ni. Dah tak der dah. So, persoalan sekarang ni, apa aku nak ajar budak budak leftovers ni. Aku pun macam naik angin dengan perkataan leftovers ni. Kenapa dulu tak ambik. Sekarang baru nak ambik. 

Since ABAP dah tak der kat lab dan aku malas nak request sana sini. DAN JUGA ini budak budak leftovers, aku buat jer lah mana yang mampu. Student pun bukan nak belajar sangat. Dpt A cukuplah. Belajar ker tak, belakang cerita. Disebabkan untuk graduate kena ambik subjek ini, jadi kena lah offer.

Tapi aku ambik positive lah benda ni. Tak der ABAP, tak yah guna ABAP. Kalau setakat 2-3 orang budak lama yang even bukan cream of the crop, forget it lah. Aku rasa aku nak buat student ni kerja lebih. Guna Flipped Classroom. Aku tak nak cerita panjang lebar dalam kelas ni. Aku tak nak buat macam kelas 1st year yang aku cerita panjang lebar dengan pace yang cukup ngam tapi student masih tak paham. Penat macam ni. Seriously penat. 

Jadi aku nak kena prepare lesson plan. Aku curate the lesson and let them study. Kalau tak, aku jer buat, participatenyer tak. Penat.

January 2025 Semester - My Reflection

 January 2025 semester ends. So, what's my reflection? Let's start with the good points. 

The Good Points

The good point is that I managed to deliver the material well. For self-learn, I prepared the material on my Google Site. I also liked the timing. Manage to finish the material on time. I can say in terms of preparation, I give my self a 4 star. 

Jigsaw Activity

I managed to do a jigsaw activity for the topic IS technologies which something that I am happy with how it went. I learn a lot from this activity as I got to see how well students understand the topic. 

Problem-Based Learning

I introduced problem-based learning in my teaching this semester. I didn't it was PBL. I thought it is. PBL is defined as:

Problem-Based Learning (PBL) is a teaching method in which complex real-world problems are used as the vehicle to promote student learning of concepts and principles as opposed to direct presentation of facts and concepts. In addition to course content, PBL can promote the development of critical thinking skills, problem-solving abilities, and communication skills. It can also provide opportunities for working in groups, finding and evaluating research materials, and life-long learning (Duch et al, 2001). Source: Problem-Based Learning

The project is based on a 'real-world' problem. I came up with the context. The context is a company that has limited information systems. I acted as the founder of that company. I require the students to meet to discuss about requirements etc. 

Feedback that I got from a group is that they love it. The learn more from it. If I were to implement this again, I shouldn't have implement it in the beginning of semester after the total number of students have been finalized. 

The Bad Points

It is frustrating that students don't still grasp the concept being taught in class. Student is not able to think critically on a given question. For example if the question is Discuss Information System. Students seem not to know what to talk about. I'm like how come? Discuss the benefits of Information system. The student's answer is not satisfactory. How come?! The one that upsets me the most is the topic on Data model. For the tutorial on Data Model, most of the students submitted. They have to data model again in the project. In the final exam, student has to develop the model, SOME STUDENTS HAVE NO CLUE WHATSOEVER. I have never been so upset. The soft spot that I have for these students are gone. Not going to help them in their final. If they fail, they fail. It as simple as that. 

I think that I should 'draw' more or 'assess' more or do more activities. Teruk sangat pemikiran kritikal student ni. Give them papers and discuss. 

What Did I Do Wrong?

Perhaps I underestimate the student's capability. I need to assess a student's ability to critically think. Any tests that I can administer? Or it could be that my activity MUST allow them to think critically. 

What Should I Do?

Give them papers to read and critique. Should I do that. Ask ChatGPT

Week 7 - Decision Making

This week student's learn about decision making. Students should understand about what strategic and operational decision making. 

What is strategic decision making and what is operational decision making, decision making process and problem solving process, types of decision making and decision making model

In Week 8, the following are my lesson plan

  1. Recap on our activity, operational and strategic decision making, types of decision making and decision making model. Give the student like a quiz on prepare some questions for the student to do. 
  2. Proceed with MIS
  3. Activity on MIS

Week 3 Hardware and Software

This week's lecture is on hardware and software in IS. The objective of this lesson for me is to introduce system architecture. I managed to show IS architecture and also do an IS architecture with the student. The reason I'm doing this is because tutorial this week is on IS architecture. Students need to draw the system architecture.

IS architecture

This is an example of IS architecture. It is drawn in many ways. Nonetheless, the fundamentals are the same which is to depict the interconnectedness of IS elements e.g hardware, software, people, database etc.



Next week, we will cover database. But next week is CNY. So, I need to prepare like a self-instructional module for the students. Still on the works.

Week 2 Overview of IS

 Today I covered the second half of the topic which is Competitive Advantage and Careers in IT. Alhamdulillah. I managed to finish off Topic 1 in 2 weeks. 

I asked students to do a reflection of Topic 1. The students submitted their reflection on OneNote. This for extra marks. I guess that is the only way students to give me good reflection. From the reflection, I noticed students need two things

  1. More explanation on competitive advantage and how IS brings this to organization. Perhaps I don't explain good enough on the value of IS to organization.
  2. More real life examples. 

But even with these two comments, I feel that overall students understood what information system is.

Week 1 Overview of IS

 Class starts at 8am. More than half was there which was good. The class had no lights. It was in the lab. Why give a lab for a venue. And it has no lights! Okay. Adapt. Move next door, got lights but no HDMI cable. Adapt again.

This week, I gave an overview on the class, ice breaking and also an overview of information system. I wanted to explain to the students that IS more than just the app that you see on your mobile phone or desktop. It encompass the whole 6 components of IS. Hardware, Software, Network, Database, People and Policies. I showed them the IS architecture. I am guessing that some of the components are not familiar e.g router, switch etc. But generally the rest was okay.

I also explained data, information and knowledge. What are the differences between them. I think this more like a refresher. Information derives from data. Is it true if you have bad data, you will get bad information? Yes of course. 

I don't have the time to do some assessment. But I am able to recap. These are it

  1. Course overview, the CLOs, the assessment and the expectation
  2. Ice breaking using OneNote
  3. What is Fundamental of IS? e.g the building block of IS, the essential components, the core, the basis etc
  4. What is IS? the mixof interrelated components. I explain those components are how it is related to one another through an IS architecture. The intention is to show the components and also to tell the difference between IS and application.  
Will start Week 2 with a quiz or a reflection.
