Student Performance Monitoring for Fundamental of IS - Assignment 2

Student Performance

Four student get 50 and below for assignment 2. It is a concern because the assignment was not that difficult and student should not get marks below 50. Students are given ample time to do the assignment and student has opportunities to ask the lecturer if there are any questions that the students might have.

Causes

Each of the student was contacted to know the issues that cause the students to get marks below 50. It can be attributed that the students might understand differently.

Intervention Plan

The lecturer needs to ensure that the instructions and requirements of the assignment is clearly stated.

Student Performance Monitoring for Fundamental of IS January 2020 - Test 2

Student Performance

Gitan and Mirza (again!) got low marks for Test 2

Issues

Gitan has problems in understanding the materials. Mirza on the hand, complained that he is unable to sleep at night which makes him difficult to sleep. I am guessing that he might be overburden or he is just unable to manage his time.

Intervention Plan

I have to monitor Gitan. He did well in Test 1. But Mirza could have some issues in studying and managing his time. I advise him on how he could manage his time well and improve his studying.

FIS Lecturer Reflection #5 Jan 2020

Week: 10
Topic: Information and Decision Support System

I intend to cover decision making until MIS. The following week, I will just cover DSS vs MIS comparison. But I end up finished until DSS characteristics. The activity takes a bit of time e.g the quiz. I never meant the quiz to be a graded activity. Students will not do well in graded quiz. The quiz is meant for them to be aware of the type of questions in Tests and FE. Take it as a pre-test pre final exam. The quiz takes a bit of a time. It is only 7 questions. Connecting, login is a bit tedious. One way that I can think of is to remind students to login before hand and just launch the quiz. Giving the students time frame might also help.

The activity was about decision making. It is like a prelude to the topic of decision making. If you think making decision concerning yourself is tough, just imagine about businesses who make tough decisions all the time. I anticipate students will give like a good decision making scenario. These students are young and don't have much of life experience. But overall it was okay.

Luckily, I did not proceed with another activity. Instead, I proceed with DSS. Got to cover that a bit. Because of this, I plan to video record the lecture on MIS and the comparison between DSS and MIS. I want next week (Week 11) to be the last week of the face-to-face lecture.

I was a bit distracted in class today as a number of students were talking and I am talking in front. I remember scolding a group of students few sem back who were talking up to the extent of distracting me when I was talking. I told these students, if you want to talk, go ahead and talk. No one's stopping you but make sure that I don't hear to what you are talking. Other people is trying to listen, trying to learn but you got to open your goddamn mouth at that particular moment. So, I say it is not cool.  If next week it happens again, I gonna say just keep your mouth shut please.

FIS Lecturer Reflection #4 Jan 2020

This week is Week 9 and the topic is E-commerce, M-commerce and ERP System

I gave a lecture on e-commerce and m-commerce and I have to say for Fundamental of IS, it is suitable to adopt either active learning or blended learning. The material of the course is something that student can learn by themselves but guided.

This week (Week 9) I talked about e-commerce and m-commerce and ERP systems. For e-commerce I talked about

  • e-commerce
  • m-commerce
  • advantages and disadvantages of e-commerce
  • e-commerce key infrastructure technologies - web server, e-commerce software and electronic payment systems
  • transaction processing systems
  • enterprise resource planning
  • CRM
  • SCM
Seriously, I do not know if students really pay attention. I need to come up with an assessment for learning just to see if the students are aware of the lecture delivered.

We did a fun activity on Kahoot and Socrative.

Week 10
Next topic is on Management Information System and DSS.

Week 11
Test 2

Week 12
Presentation and Adjunct Lecture

EA Lecturer Reflection #7 Jan 2020

Topic: EA Framework
This week is Week 9. In Week, I have assigned the student to watch a series of 11 videos on EA methodology and EA Framework on Edpuzzle. Alhamdulillah, all students watched the video. This week, I did a quiz on Socrative to see their level of understanding. However, I am not sure whether the quiz is a correct indicator on their level of understanding because they refer to their notes in doing the quiz. So, I feel that it is not really an indicator. I reckon that a true indicator of their understanding is when the watch the video and do the quiz on Edpuzzle. Nonetheless, the positive side of the quiz in class is that I got to see they produce really good notes. I am impressed. At least that is a good sign.

In class, I recap of EA Implementation Methodology and EA Framework. I focus on the Zachman Framework, the conceptual, logical and physical. I even assign assignment 2 based on the Zachman Framework.

Overall, I think this class is on the right track. It is the other class that I am worry about.

Week 10
For Week 10, we are going to have an ADJUNCT LECTURE. For Week 11, I will do a jigsaw activity on EA Framework. I just need to prepare the material on the EA Frameworks out there.

Week 2 Ending 23-5-2025
