May 2020 Semester Reflection #6 Week 13

Semester is already over but I was requested by a student to do a revision class. The truth is I am not too sure what kind revision does the student wants. What I normally do is to recap what have been learned, discuss coursework and talk a little bit about the final exam. It works good with a face to face lecture but with an online, it does not look good to me. I am a bit baffled because the students seem to want a revision class. They came to the revision session but it was like a graveyard. I was like talking to myself that I feel not interested to continue. Well I did. I was not interested to continue. I feel like ending the session right at that moment.

Maybe one of the reason was I did not know what they want. I did it what I thought was right. Are they expecting me to go through each topic? I do not know what they want. So, for next semester, it will be better for me to ask the students what do they want from the revision session.

I don't know about the students but to me, as the lecturer, the revision session was just a waste of time. Seriously lacking of questions like revision session was not even necessary.

May 2020 Semester Reflection #5 Week 11

Week 11's topic is on MIS, VR/AR and Information System Development. This week is also the last week of lecture. Probably in my mind this week is just to finish off the lecture. I had no activities this week. This could be attributed to the lack of preparation on my side.

Anyways, for next semester, I need to be better prepared for this topic in terms of activities which I think it is really difficult thing to do. I was really preparing the earlier lessons but not really this week's lesson.

Now, the lecture is done. Next week is the assessments of the projects.

May 2020 Semester Reflection #4 Week 10

The lesson for Week 10 is Information and Decision Support System. There are four major topics in this lesson: Problem, DSS, MIS and Comparison between DSS and MIS. The topic for DSS is delivered fully online. Lecture was conducted on Problem and MIS. I didn't have the time to discuss the differences between DSS and MIS.

I got it all planned out in terms of the activities for this week. I got quizzes on Socrative and Quizziz. I kind of like Quizziz. Nice tool for assessment for learning. The tool is fun too.

The lecture begins with a quiz on ERP on Socrative. Got to flushed out those misunderstood concepts. I love doing quiz before class. At least we got to know what the student understand and what don't. The only think is about participation. While MOST of the students participate, I feel that there are students who choose to seat at the back and just watch. I told the students, you got to try the quiz. You can just sit back and enjoy the show. You got to participate. That takes 30 minutes. I think I need to reduce the time by asking the students to do it quicker OR reduce the question.

The 2nd part of the lecture is a lecture on Problem. I told the students, the gist of this lesson is about Problem. My activities include students to share the decision that have to make in their life. I have two issues about this activity. Firstly, time. Next semester, I need to ask the students to do it BEFORE class. Second, is participation. Next semester, I might want give grades for the activity.

**Next semester, I might assess the students every WEEK. I will be like. Okay students, this week there are 3 marks up for grabs. If the students do the work and participate, I will award them the marks. There will be students who are not able to come to class for various reasons. Well, only students with valid reasons can be exempted and I have to take note. More work for me :-((

I don't have enough time to cover MIS and MIS vs DSS. Will cover that in Week 11.
