Week 7 - Fundamental of IS January 2026

This week is assignment presentation week.

This week's lesson is on e-commerce, transaction processing systems and overview of enterprise systems. For the first time this week, students play Blooket.

Students seem to know e-commerce based on experience and previous classes. So, I would not want to deep dive into it. I just focus on the key softwares i.e web server and e-commerce software, strategies for a successful e-commerce and payment systems.

TPS lesson is full force. Student must know what is transaction, TPS, example of TPS

MSc Progress Update - FA

 Meeting #2

Fatima presented her 'RPD' to me. Now, I get a clearer picture of what RPM is because I think the student does not really get it. Knowing the definition of the subject matter is important. Knowing and be firm about it. The student seems not to be too firm. Perhaps it is how she explain things. I think that if I know the fundamentals of the subject of her work, then it will be easier for me to guide her. She needs guidance for sure. Some SV does not have the time to do that. We just got to be patient with this student and don't think about no bullshit.

What is RPM? From my understanding, RPM is about doctors able to monitor the condition of the patient, whether it is heartbeat, oxygen levels, blood pressure, etc regardless of the location of the patient. Patient will strap to the device and using IoT to capture and send the data to the doctors. THAT IS IT. Of course, RPM falls under the telemedicine umbrella and telemedicine falls under the digital healthcare umbrella.

I actually have low expectation on the student's ability to do data collection and data analysis. She is new into research. It is up to the SV to guide her. Some students are good despite not knowing to do research. When you think about it, students have been exposed to some elements of research during undergraduate. FYP for instance. So, to say that student has no IDEA of doing research is not true. They know some but the knowledge and skills of doing research enhance when they move to postgraduate.

Okay, so what's next? I ask the student to redo the interview protocol. Make the interview questions more focused towards RPM (not telemedicine, not digital healthcare). Secondly, I am not convince by the students knowledge on TOE. The student seems to know things. But I am not convinced by the student knows. I want the student to include the definition of the TOE in the interview protocol.

When do I want? Thursday!

MSc Progress Update - Fatima Alam

Meeting #1

Date: 20-2-2025

Interview Protocols

  1. I commented on her IP. I feel that it is better if she could group the questions according to stakeholders i.e nurses, doctors, management.
  2. I feel that she has lack of idea on what she wants from the stakeholders. When asked about what do you want to know from the nurses, the response was not that convincing. I am thinking of giving her like a template so that she could write down her succinctly.
  3. She showed me sample interview questions from a source. She wanted to use this. I said I will look into it.

Presentation ala RPD

  1. I asked Fatima to do a presentation ala RPD to me. The reason is because I want to know what her research is all about. I also want to know her level of understanding.

APC paper

  1. I want her to share with me the APC paper that she sent to her previous SV. I want to know about how she write, her level of understanding and many more.

What I Need to Do

  1. Fatima is new to research. Very new. She has no clue in doing research.
  2. I need to do some reading a bit about Remote Patient Monitoring and TOE.
  3. Questions - how does Digital Healthcare System, Digital Healthcare devices, enabling technology like IoT and cloud and others relate to Remote Patient Monitoring.

MSc Progress Update - FA

FA is currently doing preliminary data collection to see if her instrument provides the response that she needs. Will meet her after Raya.
