Week 2 - 14 Jan 2020
This week is the first face to face lecture for Fundamental of Information System. I begin the lecture with introducing each other and I even show the student, the Rocky Balboa clip. I hope they know who Rocky is :-)) After introducing themselves online, I asked them about what do they know about information systems, the difference between information systems and information technology and why information system is the career of choice. Then I proceed with the lecture. The 1-IS IN ORG 1 is the PowerPoint file that I used. I covered Why information system is needed in every profession, I asked them about information systems that they have experienced before and last the difference between data, information and knowledge.
I still need to get some reflection out of this particularly
1. What is information and why is that information system is needed in every organizations?
2. What information system that a particular profession use and what information that this profession needed in his/her work?
This student is 1st YEAR 1st SEM which means that this is their first semester in undergraduate. The learning should be fun and should be easy to digest. One student mentioned about a subject similar to FIS in foundation which is IBIS. She commented the subject is tough, hard and difficult. I was wondering, how so? If reading is a challenge, then you can't run away from reading. You still got to read. My opinion is that the content is quite plain, the teaching is uninteresting but that is not my worry. What worries me is that how can I make FIS different from IBIS?
The Activities
1. What is Information system to you? [10mins on Padlet] From the response it can be seen all students mentioned that information system is the merger between IT and business. The students get it but I think is a bit shallow. I need to give the students some videos to watch on careers in information system. https://padlet.com/kshafee_kalid/isty
2.Identify data or information. [10 mins on Scorative]. I gave them a series of picture and they determine whether the picture has data or information or both. The receipt is interesting. <cough>.
3. Introduce yourself [10 min on Microsoft Forms] Introduce yourself. I just want to know the student.
Week 3 - 21 Jan 2020
I stopped at Data Information and Knowledge in Week 2. For Week 3, I will recap, continue with the components of systems and CIS technology infrastructure. The goal is for them to understand the components of technology infrastructure. I need to inject some practical elements into the content.

2. Computer-based information system. The technology infrastructure.
3. Overview on BIS
